Phene's at Sea 2011

"None of us knows what the next change is going to be, what unexpected opportunity is just around the corner, waiting to change all the tenor of our lives." -Kathleen Norris

Notes

So last night we had our first official SAS talent show, super exciting. There were actually some amazing people who sang, and one guy who played a mean fiddle, who was from…guess where Dana….APPALACHIA. Hahaha I know, but actually he was amazing. There was also an amazing (insert heavy sarcastic intonation here) performance of Bad Romance by Lady Gaga, complete with one-piece swimsuit and half naked men as backup dancers. Quite the entertainment, and don’t worry, I got a prime video. All in all a very entertaining evening. Today we had a reading day with no class, and I laid out all morning. I didn’t get burned because I smeared 70 spf ALL over my body but still managed to get a pretty substantial tan line in the course of about 3 hours. The sun at the equator, plus the fact that we’re floating on a body of water, is super intense. I am a representative of the Baltic sea (our hall) for the Sea Olympics, so I had a 2 hour meeting today to plan the opening ceremony and the events. It was fun, I’ve been getting to meet so many different people through clubs so I’m glad I volunteered for all these things. Tomorrow at 8 am we port at Manaus, about 1,000 miles up the Amazon River into Brazil. Molly and I are going on a service trip into the Amazon jungle, where we’re going to help build and paint a school in a small village. It’s going to be quite an experience! I’ll be offline for about 4 days, but you should all email me so that I have tons of messages when I get back. OH and I realized I never gave my email out to everyone, so here it is: fdsalisbury@semesteratsea.net. Yay!
